Parent and Family Engagement Policy/Plan and Procedures
2024-2025
Lackamas Elementary is committed to the goal of providing quality education for every child in this district. To this end, we want to establish partnerships with parents and with the community. Everyone gains if Lackamas Elementary and home work together to promote high achievement by our children. Neither home nor Lackamas Elementary can do the job alone. Parents play an extremely important role as children’s first teachers. Support for their children and for the school is critical to children’s success at every step along the way.
Lackamas Elementary recognizes that some students may need the extra assistance available through the Title I program to reach the state’s high academic standards. Lackamas Elementary intends to include parents in all aspects of the school’s Title I program. The goal is a school-home partnership that will help all students to succeed.
PART I-SCHOOL PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT POLICY/PLAN REQUIRED COMPONENTS
Lackamas Elementary will jointly develop/revise with parents the school Parent and Family Engagement policy/procedures and distribute it to parents. The school will make available the Parent and Family Engagement policy/procedures to the local community.
- Establish a Parent Advisory Committee. Interested parents will be invited to join during the months of October and November.
- The Parent Advisory Committee will review the Title I Program documents and recommend changes as necessary.
- All families of participating students will be given copies of the new Title I documents, via paper or electronic delivery by 122/21/2024 if changes are made.
Convene an annual meeting, at a convenient time, to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend, to inform parents of their school’s participation under this part and to explain the requirements of this part, and the right of the parents to be involved.
A. The Lackamas Elementary Title I Program will:
- Schedule one Title I open houses on two consecutive evenings during fall and spring conferences.
- Hold one academic night in the fall or spring.
B. Lackamas Elementary Title I Program will provide parents with timely information about the Title I Program:
- Families will receive revised plans by 11/21/2024 either in paper form or electronically.
- Families will receive a quarterly Title I newsletter.
- Families will receive report cards showing progress during the 2nd and 4th quarters from the classroom teachers.
C. If the schoolwide program plan is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, submit any parent comments on the plan when the school makes the plan available to the district.

D. A description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessments used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
- This information will be given at parent nights and parent-teacher conferences scheduled in November and March.
E. Parents may request a meeting to formulate suggestions and participate in decisions relating to the education of their children, as appropriate.

PART II-REQUIRED SHARED RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HIGH STUDENT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
Lackamas Elementary Title I program will take on a shared responsibility for high student academic achievement with the families that it serves by:
- Conducting parent/teacher conferences during which the compact shall be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.
- Providing frequent reports to parents on their child’s progress.
- Providing parents with reasonable access to staff, opportunities to volunteer.
- Ensuring regular two-way, meaningful communication between family members and school staff, and, to the extent practicable, in a language that family members can understand.
PART III - BUILDING CAPACITY FOR PARENTS AND STAFF – REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGAGEMENT
To ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the school and families, Lackamas Elementary Title I Program will:
- Provide assistance to parents, as appropriate, in understanding such topics as the state’s academic standards, state and district assessments, and how to monitor their child’s progress; Information regarding how to work with staff to improve the achievement of their child will be given as well.
- Upon request, provide materials and training to help parents work with their child to improve their child’s achievement.
- When feasible and appropriate, coordinate and integrate parent involvement programs and activities with the Learning Assistance Program.
- Ensure that information related to school and parent programs, meetings, and other activities are sent to parents in a format, and to the extent practicable, in a language parents can understand.
- Train parents, as needed, to enhance the involvement of other parents.
- Adopt and implement model approaches to improving parent involvement.
- Develop appropriate roles for community-based organizations and businesses in parent involvement activities.
- May arrange school meetings at a variety of times, or conduct in-home conferences between teachers or other educators, who work directly with participating children, with parents who are unable to attend such conferences at school, in order to maximize Parent and Family Engagement and participation.
PART IV-ACCESSIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
In carrying out the parental involvement requirements, the school shall provide opportunities for the participation of parents with migratory children as well as parents of children with limited English proficiency or disabilities. This includes providing information in a format, and to the extent practical, in a language that parents can understand.
PART V: UNRESOLVABLE COMPLAINT PROCEDURE
Upon exhausting all avenues of reasonable conflict resolution with the school, parents have the right to lodge a formal complaint with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
PART IV-ADOPTION
This Lackamas Elementary Parent and Family Engagement Policy/Procedures have been revised jointly with, and agreed upon with, parents of children participating in Title I program, as evidenced by meeting minutes.
The Parent and Family Engagement Policy/Procedures were developed/revised by Lackamas Elementary on 11/15/2024 and will be in effect for the period of 2024-2025. The school will distribute these Parent and Family Engagement Policy/Procedures to all parents of participating Title I children and make it available to the community on or before 12/21/2024.
